Vineyards of the Barossa Valley
The Barossa offers everything you'd expect from Australia's most famous wine region. Winemakers waiting to share their secrets at the cellar door; landscapes etched with manicured vineyards; passionate food producers proffering their wares at country markets; and grand chateaux surrounded by ornate gardens. And it's all just an hour from Adelaide.

The region owes much of its appeal to the European peasant farmers and English free settlers who made the place home from the 1850s. (The Lutherans fleeing religious persecution and the English seeking a gentrified lifestyle in the young colony's promised utopia.) You'll get a taste of their rich cultural legacy in superb Barossa specialty foods, dozens of festivals and events, historic architecture and inspiring arts & antique galleries.

Historic Horse Drawn Trams - Granite Island, Victor Harbor
The Horse Drawn Trams are a South Australian icon and have a long history of serving visitors to Victor Harbor since 1894. Powerful Clydesdale horses pull the trams over the bay across the spectacular 630m Causeway joining the mainland to Granite Island.

Whale Watching and Beautiful Beaches of Victor Harbor
The Whale Centre shows two exhibits telling the story of our relationship with whales in Encounter Bay – from hunting them to near extinction, to protecting them today with a push for responsible whale watching.

Paddle Steamers of the Might River Murray
Recharge on Australia's mighty Murray River as it winds its way through the heart of the Murraylands, carving out steep sandstone cliffs that turn deep orange at sunset; winding past giant red gums and weeping willows; and spilling its banks to create wide, wild lagoons.

And there are heaps of ways to take it all in. You can paddle a canoe through quiet backwaters; charter your own houseboat, from budget to budget-breaking luxury; take a five-night cruise on the PS Murray Princess and the Proud Mary; or take a short day trip out from the historic river ports of Mannum and Murray Bridge. You can water ski, swim and fish, or sprawl out with a good book on the banks.

The Picturesque Adelaide Hills
Drive the region's many scenic routes and you'll find picture-postcard views at every turn; some of the best cool-climate wines in Australia; koalas, kangaroos and enough cute native animals to melt even the most world-weary heart; and gorgeous places to rest your head at the end of gentle days of discovery.

And this little pocket of paradise is so close to Adelaide. Just a few minutes' drive down the South Eastern Freeway and you're away from the rat race and surrounded by manicured vineyards and market gardens, natural Australian bushland and lush green pastures. Each season offers its own appeal: leafy landscapes ablaze with changing colours in autumn; warm fires and historic B&Bs in winter; blooms and berries in spring; and cool cellar door retreats in summer.

Historic Old Hahndorf and other Towns
Rolling hills and leafy valleys provide a spectacular backdrop for pretty towns across the Adelaide Hills. You're unlikely to pass through any village without being enticed by a roadside stall, nursery, intriguing shop, aromatic bakery or historic pub. Visit Hahndorf for its German heritage; Woodside for its antiques; Stirling for its organic market and excellent shops; Gumeracha for its giant rocking horse (voted best big thing in Australia); Bridgewater for the award-winning cellar door and restaurant at Bridgewater Mill; Birdwood for the National Motor Museum; Macclesfield for its Sunday market; and Norton Summit for the Scenic Hotel.
